Setting Up a Custom Domain

This is probably one of the more tricky parts of setting up Propopen, but don't worry…we're here to help!

First, we really recommend setting up your own custom domain. For one, it's the beginning of branding yourself as a real estate professional online. Second, all your agent website and all your property webpages you create on Propopen will be linked to your custom domain.

If you don't own a custom domain yet, you'll first need to purchase one. We do recommend godaddy.com. They're probably the largest domain seller, reasonably priced, and they offer free DNS management (which is what you'll need to complete setting up your custom domain on Propopen).

If you're already familiar with domains and DNS, this will actually be very easy. All you need to do is go to Settings, and hit the Custom Domains tab. Once there, under the section "Domain", just enter your custom domain URL, and click "Save Domain".

After you successfully save your domain on Propopen, you'll want to copy that IP address that's on the same screen (you'll need that for later).

Now, you'll want to navigate to the service that's managing your DNS and configure your DNS. In your DNS manager, add an "A Record" with Name/Host set to "@" and Value/Point To set to the IP address you copied above. You can set TTL (time to live) to 1 hour. Here's a more in-depth guide into configuring your DNS settings as part of setting up your custom domain. In this guide, we'll show you how it works with Godaddy's DNS manager. If you're using a different DNS manager, the steps might be slightly different.

How to Configure your DNS Settings

After purchasing your custom domain name through GoDaddy, here’s how to set up your DNS to point to your new Propopen website:

First, Copy your IP Address from Propopen

Go to propopen.com and login to your account.
Once logged in, click on “Setting” on the left-hand menu, and click on the “Custom Domains” tab.
Under the “Custom Domain” section, input your custom URL (don’t include the “www”)
Copy the IP address (you’ll need this IP address later for your DNS settings)

Login to your Godaddy Account

Go to godaddy.com and login to your account

Click on the DNS button next to your Custom Domain

After logging in to GoDaddy, you should see a list of your purchased domains.
Click the “DNS” button next to your domain name to manage your DNS settings.
This should bring you to the DNS manager for your custom domain.

Add or Edit the "A Record"

In the DNS manager, if you already see an A Record there, you’ll need to "Edit" this A Record.

If there’s no A Record there, you’ll need to Add a new A Record by clicking “Add” on the bottom.

Manually Creating a Property Webpage

You have the option of manually creating a property webpage. We only really advise this option in cases where the MLS importer isn't working, or if your listing isn't yet listed on the MLS. Otherwise, save yourself a lot of data entry by first importing your listing data using your MLS Property ID.

To manually create a property webpage, click "Properties" on the main menu, and click the "Manually Input Property Details" button on the right sidebar.

Now, your new property webpage is already created in draft mode and ready for you to fill out all the details.

You will need at least the Property Address to turn this Property Webpage from Draft to Active or Sold.

Schedule and Post an Open House

With out Property Websites, you can schedule and post open houses for that Property so that customers following your listing can know when to view it.

Posting an open house on your Property Websites is incredibly easy. There's 2 ways to do it:

Click on "Properties" on the main menu. Find the property you'd like to post an open house for. Click the link "Add Open House". That opens a modal where you can schedule the date, start time, and end time of the open house. Or…
Click on "Open Houses" on the main menu. Find the property you'd like to post an open house for. Click the "Add Open House" button. That opens a modal where you can schedule the date, start time, and end time of the open house.

When you schedule an open house for a property, this displays the Open House calendar on the Property Websites. Site visitors can browse your open house and RSVP for the open house. The RSVP is another way we try to help you collect email leads from prospective customers.

The Team tab is where you can add team members to showcase on your website. Don't just think about people on your payroll. Consider anyone you work closely with to help service clients. Prospective customers want to know you have a team on hand to help service them.

We help you highlight up to 5 team members. For each team member, you can showcase their name, title, bio, and profile picture. Once your team profiles are created, you can drag-and-drop the profiles to define what order they appear.
